Speaking to Aston Villa’s official Twitter account, Steve Bruce has expressed that Jonathan Kodjia’s absence against Birmingham City will be a huge advantage to the Blues in Sunday’s Second-City derby.
Kodjia, who received a straight red card in Monday’s defeat to Fulham, was set to serve a three-match suspension, but after an appeal, the Villa striker will just miss Sunday’s clash with Birmingham.
Previewing Sunday’s game, Bruce admitted Kodjia’s absence was a blow, but expressed it could be the perfect occasion for January signing Scott Hogan, he said: “Kodjia will be missing. It’s a huge advantage for Birmingham. He’s been arguably our best player.
“What an ideal game for Scott Hogan. Villa v Birmingham could be the game that rockets him- we hope so.”
Hogan has struggled with injury since arriving at Villa Park from Brentford in January, scoring just once for Bruce’s side.
Victory for Villa on Sunday will see Birmingham pushed into further relegation trouble, with the Blues currently just three-points above the bottom-three.
