West Bromwich Albion boss Steve Bruce has revealed that he is expecting big things from Taylor Gardner-Hickman next season.

A natural right back, the 20-year-old has made 19 Championship appearances this campaign, the majority of which have come in midfield, and he has won plenty of plaudits from both fans and pundits for the quality of his efforts.

That also saw him sign a new long term contract with the club earlier this season, securing his future at The Hawthorns until the end of the 2025/26 season.

Bruce is pleased with the impact Gardner-Hickman has had despite not playing in his natural position though, and the Baggies boss says he is looking at big things for the young player next season.

Speaking about Gardner-Hickman's prospects moving forward, Bruce told The Express & Star: "He has done very, very, well for us in midfield. His best position is probably full-back, he thinks it is, but he has done well in midfield."
“It’s nice to have somebody who can do a little bit of both. I’m just pleased with the impact he’s had and the way he is as a character and a person. “He’s young. He’s desperately eager to succeed. He is one of our own and that always goes down well.
“He has had a decent start to his career and we’re looking at big things for next season and if there is anyone else in the academy who can follow his lead.”
Gardner-Hickman and West Brom are next in action when they face Reading away in Sky Bet Championship action, with kick-off set for 3pm on Saturday 30th April.
The Verdict
Taylor Gardner Hickman has come in during the second half of the season and had a real impact at West Brom. That isn't something that's easy to do at 20 years old, particularly when you consider that he is playing in a position he doesn't consider his best. There is plenty of room for growth over the summer and it will be fascinating to watch Gardner-Hickman's development closely into next season. If he continues on his current trajectory, he could well be a big player for West Brom next season, as Steve Bruce alluded to.
