Steve Bruce has won plaudits across the country for the way in which he has improved Sheffield Wednesday in the couple of months he has been there.

While the play-offs is unattainable, Wednesday were staring down the barrel of a below-par season, set to be languished in the bottom half of the table.

Bruce has helped Wednesday climb the table and despite a loss at Leeds last week - his second at the club - the Owls are certainly improving week on week.

It’ll be very interesting to see how they do next season, with Bruce having a full summer to drill his ideas and experience into the team.

A few signings are needed, for sure, but Wednesday should be fighting for the play-offs again next season if they can keep the core of this squad together.

One huge question mark is over the future of midfielder Kieran Lee, who has had a horrific few years riddled with injury.

Lee hasn’t featured for the first team since December 2017, with horrific injury problems ruling him out of contention.

Now 30, Lee is on the comeback trail, having played a few matches for the under-23 side in recent weeks.

There’s a chance Lee may even feature on the bench in coming weeks.

If he doesn’t, he may have played his last game in Wednesday colours, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.

But Lee is a talented individual, and we think that Steve Bruce should take a risk on him.

He was instrumental in Carlos Carvalhal’s Wednesday side that achieved back-to-back play-off finishes, a regular in midfield alongside Barry Bannan.

With a bit of luck he could’ve been a Premier League player, but Wednesday were unlucky.

His presence in midfield, as well as his leadership, have been sorely missed by Wednesday, and while it would be a risk to sign him up, Bruce should seriously consider giving him a chance to prove himself.
