Aston Villa have been backed by Steve Bruce to come good this season, with the club’s manager stressing that the longer the season goes on, the better his side will become.

It’s not been the best start to the season for Villa, who sit 12th heading out of the international break.

Bruce has watched his side win just twice in six Championship fixtures, as well as crash out of the League Cup to lower league opposition.

Last time out Villa were beaten 4-1 by Sheffield United, leaving them winless in the league since the second round of fixtures.

However, Bruce has delivered a strong message, insisting that his side have the makings of a very good side, who will keep improving.

He told the club’s official website: “I'm convinced the longer we go, the better we'll become.

“We have the makings of a very decent team and we have to prove it over the next 40 games.”

Bruce’s side are back in action tomorrow after a long international break, heading to Ewood Park to take on Blackburn Rovers.

Like Villa, Rovers enter the clash on the back of a 4-1 defeat, with Tony Mowbray’s side well beaten by Bristol City last time out.

Ahead of the clash with Blackburn, Bruce has confirmed that eleventh hour arrival, Tammy Abraham, will debut.

The Verdict

After a successful end to the transfer window, Bruce will be confident that his side will come good.

However, their defensive problems were highlighted against Sheffield United and Bruce hasn’t improved his options in that area.

The club might have promotion hopes, but they will need to significantly improve.
