Steve Bruce makes bold claim about controversial Aston Villa striker

Published

on

According to the Aston Villa official website, Steve Bruce has claimed that controversial striker Gabriel Agbonlahor is the best centre forward in the Championship when fit and firing.

Gabby Agbonlahor was cast aside by Roberto di Matteo and exiled from the first team picture.

He even declined a deadline day loan move to Reading.

It appeared that Agbonlahor’s Villa career was over but Bruce is hoping that he can get the striker back to speed and has put him on a conditioning programme which is expected to last six weeks.

The 30-year-old is ahead of schedule, according to Bruce, and has been deployed as a substitute in the games against Birmingham and Blackburn.

The former captain of Aston Villa, who has been at the club since 1994, was in the spotlight for the wrong reasons last year as he was pictured with laughing gas canisters and smoking a shisha pipe in two separate incidents.

Steve Bruce is taking a punt on the thrice-capped England international, who he believes can be the best centre forward in the league if he gets back to the physical condition he used to be in.

Aston Villa fans – do you agree with what Bruce is saying? How important can Agbonlahor still be for  you?
