Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has admitted he may need to try a different approach as his side look to cope without key creative midfielders Jack Grealish and Albert Adomah.

The pair were highly influential as Villa went on a seven-game winning run that saw them transform from play-off hopefuls to top two contenders. However, they've both missed the last two games and the team have suffered.

Firstly, they went down 2-0 to promotion rivals Fulham before Preston took a point from Villa Park in the week.

Yet, the biggest worry will be how Villa's form has dipped in those two games. They failed to score from open play and looked toothless on both occasions, with Bruce unable to call on similar attack-minded midfielders to come in.

As well as Grealish and Adomah, Robert Snodgrass and Ahmed Elmohamady have struggled too.

And, he told the Express & Star that he will have to try something different against Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow.

"We’re missing a few, our attacking players and our creative ones. All of a sudden four or five of the team which has been doing so well is in dock. We have to find another way."

The Verdict

Villa fans will be glad to hear that Bruce is trying to change things although any formula he tries may not work without two such influential players.

However, Bruce has to do something. Whether it's a 4-4-2 so the team can go more direct, or bring in a youngster like Callum O'Hare, the past two games can't continue.

Villa still have a great chance of making the top two but need to get back to winning ways at Hillsborough.
