Sheffield Wednesday manager Steve Bruce has delivered an update on the fitness of midfielder Barry Bannan and defender Dominic Iorfa, ahead of Saturday's clash with Leeds United.

Bruce was speaking to the media ahead of the Championship fixture at Elland Road and revealed that both players will train today in an attempt to be fit for the game.

Andy Giddings, a sports journalist for BBC Sheffield, was at Bruce's press conference and delivered the update via Twitter.

Bannan has made 37 appearances for Wednesday in the Championship this season and was substituted during the second half of last weekend's 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa with a hamstring problem.

Meanwhile, right-back Iorfa was taken off just before half-time in the defeat at Hillsborough with an injury of his own and both players missed the 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.

Sheffield Wednesday are currently tenth in the Championship table, six points outside the play-off places and still have an outside chance of making the top six.

Meanwhile, Leeds are currently second in the league table, one point ahead of third-placed Sheffield United in the race for automatic promotion.

The Verdict:

This is good news for Steve Bruce and Sheffield Wednesday.

Both Bannan and Iorfa have been important players for the Owls this season and it will be a big boost if they can return to action against Leeds.

It is a must-win game for the Owls at Elland Road, as they need a victory to keep their play-off hopes alive.
