Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce insists his side will come good in time after their home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday today.

The West Midlands side were poor for large parts of the game and goals from Marco Matias and Steven Fletcher inflicted a second defeat of the season for Villa.

More worryingly, it was a sixth game without a win in this campaign and it means they have lost ground on the promotion pack.

However, Bruce came out fighting when speaking to the Express & Star, claiming his side need time to develop an understanding after a high turnover of players in the summer.

"We all look for time. That’s the magic word. No matter how you dress it up, it’s still a new team and people have only been here for a few weeks. When they settle in, they’ll be fine."

The experienced boss also responded to the fans criticism, after the side were booed off and there were chants for Bruce to go.

"There’s some who will never accept me here, but that’s part and parcel of management. They’re disappointed, but so am I. Of course I’m just as disappointed."

The Verdict

These comments won't go down well with the Villa supporters and I can see why. Bruce shouldn't be making excuses and should be taking responsibility.

Obviously, in an ideal world he would be working with a settled side, however he still has one of the most talented squads in the division.

Villa have quality players, have spent big on wages and transfers over the years and excuses like this aren't really acceptable.
