Steve Bruce is cautious of Aston Villa’s clash with Bristol City tonight, despite his side’s newfound confidence, reports the club’s official Twitter account.
Villa host Bristol City at Villa Park this evening, looking for back-to-back victories for the first time since December, following a 1-0 victory over Derby County at the weekend.
James Chester’s first-half header gave Bruce’s side their first win since Boxing Day, and stopped a run of five consecutive defeats, commenting about the victory, he said:
“We needed a result at the weekend and we got it. It meant something to the lads and now it’s all about building confidence.”
Bristol City suffered different emotions over the weekend, losing a 2-0 lead to Newcastle United, eventually drawing 2-2 at St James’ Park.
Lee Johnson’s side are 21st in the Sky Bet Championship table, just two-points outside the relegation zone, but Bruce is still wary of tonight’s opponents: “They will be dangerous. Every opponent is dangerous here. They come to Villa Park and think ‘what a wonderful place.’”
Saturday’s victory moved Bruce’s side eight-points clear of the relegation zone, and another three-points this evening will go a long way to securing the club’s Championship status.
