Steve Bruce identifies the position that Aston Villa will look to strengthen in January

According to The Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has confirmed that the club will be looking to bring in a new goalkeeper during the January transfer window.

However Steve Bruce has ruled out a re-union with Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Keiren Westwood.

Steve Bruce commented that he has seen widespread speculation linking him with a move for Westwood, who he signed from Coventry when he was at Sunderland back in 2011.

Although Bruce admires the 32-year-old, he has revealed that Aston Villa have no interest in bringing the Republic of Ireland international to B6, which will come as a relief to Sheffield Wednesday fans.

Aston Villa will look for a new goalkeeper in the January window, though, following back-up goalkeeper Jed Steer’s season-ending injury recently.

Bruce would like his new goalkeeping recruit to come in and compete with Pierluigi Gollini for a starting spot between the sticks, suggesting that the future of Mark Bunn at Aston Villa looks bleak.

When asked if he could comment on any possible names, Steve Bruce declined but added that it will not be Keiren Westwood coming in.

Aston Villa fans – what do you think? Do you need a new goalkeeper? Are you disappointed that Westwood will not be joining? Let us know in the comments below…
