Steve Bruce hopeful of bringing former star back to Aston Villa

Despite the window slamming shut yesterday, Aston Villa are still hoping to bring Robert Snodgrass back to the club on loan.

According to The Mirror’s Live Transfer Blog [Thursday 9th August, 22:36], Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce is hopeful of re-signing Snodgrass from West Ham United on loan after his impressive stint last season.

Slaven Bilic deemed Snodgrass surplus to requirements at the beginning of last season and sanctioned a season-long loan to Villa Park, where he scored seven goals and provided 14 assists for team-mates.

This summer, the Scotland international has been given a chance to impress in pre-season and Manuel Pellegrini has been interested in reintegrating him back into the side.

The 30-year-old has played well in pre-season friendlies, impressed with his application in training and he scored against Aston Villa in a friendly match.

But the Hammers have signed Felipe Anderson, Andriy Yarmolenko and Lucas Perez, as well as having Arthur Masuaku, Michail Antonio and Marko Arnautovic on their books so Aston Villa are hopeful of bringing Snodgrass back.

The Verdict

I think the Scotsman will be given a chance at West Ham but this is a good ploy by the Villans.

They will wait to see how much of a role Snodgrass plays in his first two or three matches then launch a swoop if he is not being used.

If they do get him, Snodgrass would add competition for places out wide and he is a superb Championship player.
