Steve Bruce has to ensure Sheffield Wednesday bring back crowd favourite over the summer

Published

on

Sheffield Wednesday have been in fine form since Steve Bruce took the managerial reins earlier in the year, with the Owls just set to miss out on a play-off spot.

Although mathematically still possible for Bruce to lead the Owls to a top six spot, it is unlikely given the series of events needed, and all eyes at Hillsborough might well be on the summer and next season in truth.

Bruce has already demonstrated that he has the managerial quality to lead teams to promotion, and Owls fans will be hoping he can work some magic in the summer and bring in the right players to ultimately give Wednesday their best chance of challenging at the top end of the table.

One of the key men Bruce will surely be looking to bring in to the club on a permanent basis is defender Michael Hector, who has been a shrewd capture since joining the club on a loan deal in January.

It is apparently already on the agenda for Bruce to bring Hector back, and it makes all kind of sense for Wednesday to sign the Chelsea man if they can.

Hector has been a massive presence at the back for the Owls, and his ability to win the ball, organise the back four, and set the tone for his team is something which should not be underestimated.

For his size too, Hector is no slouch covering ground against quicker and more nimble strikers, and he really does have everything in the locker to become a top central defender at Championship level.

He has proved thus far in his time at Hillsborough that he is more than capable of performing at a high level consistently, and he has built himself a rapport with the Owls fans which is rarely seen from loan players.

Wednesday will be looking to bring in plenty of new players to get their squad up to scratch, but Hector has to be the number one target for Bruce and his coaching team.
