Sheffield Wednesday manager Steve Bruce has confirmed that midfielder Josh Onomah will not be available for this weekend’s clash with Blackburn Rovers.

Bruce also admitted that the Tottenham man’s loan spell has not gone as well as they had hoped but set a target for his return.

“Josh Onomah won’t be available for the weekend,” he told his pre-match press conference.

“We are hoping to have him for the Stoke game.

“It’s not gone as well as we’d like with Josh on both sides but I’m a big admirer of his.”

Since making the move to Hillsborough from Spurs back in the summer, the midfielder has made 12 Championship appearances and has not played since the start of February.

Wednesday are currently unbeaten in their last nine matches and have lost just once in their previous 15.

It is a run of form that has seen them climb into the frame for a late push for the play-offs, sat just four points behind Derby County.

The verdict

This is a real shame for Wednesday but not a surprise.

Onomah has played really well when he has had the chance this season but those chances have come all too infrequently.

Bruce and his players need to keep focused on beating Rovers and continuing an unlikely play-off push.
