Steve Bruce has left fans in no doubt at all as to his intentions as Aston Villa manager in light of their recent slump in form.

Bruce's Villa have struggled at the start of the season, needing a last-gasp Conor Hourihane goal to earn them a point at Blackburn this weekend after Bradley Dack's late opener for the hosts.

The draw saw Villa remain in the middle of the table, 12th with ten points from seven games. That leaves them five points from the top spot, but just five points from the bottom three.

Despite the disappointing form, Bruce has remained defiant, signalling his intention to remain in the hot seat at Villa Park, despite some sections of the support voicing their desire to see him sacked.

"The ones who want me to leave anyway I can’t do anything about it," Bruce told the Birmingham Mail. “I think it’s football and the way society is. Society today in football you haven’t got time. I’m fine. I’m trying and I’m determined to see it through. You know what I’m like, I’m a resilient old t***.”

There's a good chance to alleviate the pressure on himself tomorrow night when 14th placed Rotherham visit Villa Park.

The Verdict

Bruce is a man under pressure, make no mistake at all about that. His side are not performing well and he's been backed in the summer too, at least the final part of it.

He needs time, but will he get it with ambitious new owners and the weight of expectation pushing down on him? Only time will tell.
