Speaking to Aston Villa’s official media, Steve Bruce has expressed his delight at watching Gabby Agbonlahor score the winner in the Second-City derby against Birmingham City yesterday.

Agbonlahor has struggled with injuries throughout the Sky Bet Championship campaign and was an injury doubt for Sunday’s clash with the Blues.

However, the striker was named amongst the substitutes and came on during the second-half to net the winner in Villa’s cagey 1-0 victory.

The goal was Agbonlahor’s first of the season, and Bruce was particularly pleased to see the 30-year old score against Villa’s fierce rivals, he said: “I was pleased to see Gabby score. He enjoys it – he’s one of their own. He loves the derby."

Sunday’s triumph saw Villa return to winning ways, having failed to pick up a victory in their previous three Championship fixtures.

It moved Bruce’s side back into the top-half of the Championship table and also plunged Birmingham into further relegation trouble.

Harry Redknapp’s side are now just two-points above the relegation zone with two fixtures of the season remaining.
