Steve Bruce has confirmed defender Micah Richards will travel with the Aston Villa squad to Rotherham United tomorrow, and likely feature on the bench, reports the Birmingham Mail.

Richards has featured just three times for Villa this season, but has recently returned to training and impressed Bruce.

The defender’s last appearance came in October’s draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers and both Roberto Di Matteo and Steve Bruce have used Richard’s sparingly this campaign.

Richards is returning from a knee injury and Bruce gave the former England international hope of playing a part between now and the end of the season, he said: “Micah has trained for the last two weeks, he’s put himself in contention and will probably start on the bench tomorrow.”

Tommy Elphick, Nathan Baker and James Chester have all been preferred to Richards in defence, as the 28-year old struggled for opportunities before his injury.

Ahead of his reintroduction to the first-team, Bruce praised Richards’ attitude, he continued: “Since I’ve walked through the door he’s been quite refreshing in his attitude towards the team, even though he’s not been involved.”

Villa will be buoyed ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Rotherham, after recording back-to-back victories over Derby County and Bristol City, which helped lift Bruce’s side to 15th in the Sky Bet Championship and eased looming relegation fears.
