Steve Bruce comments on reports linking Premier League midfielder with Aston Villa

Steve Bruce has moved to rubbish reports linking Aston Villa with a January move for Crystal Palace midfielder Jordon Mutch, according to a report by local news outlet The Birmingham Mail.

Jordon Mutch is out of favour at Premier League strugglers Crystal Palace under Alan Pardew and could exit the South London club in January with a number of Championship clubs supposedly interested.

But Bruce has revealed that he is not one of the interested parties, despite reports suggesting otherwise.

Steve Bruce, who has already dismissed rumours linking Aston Villa with moves for Abel Hernandez and Keiren Westwood today, has likened Jordon Mutch’s style of play to Jack Grealish’s and therefore insists that they do not need to bring him to the club.

The 24-year-old was a key part of the Cardiff side which won promotion to the Premier League and then he was the star performer in the top flight for the Bluebirds.

The former England under-21 international started his career at Aston Villa’s bitter rivals Birmingham City and also had a stint at Queens Park Rangers before joining Crystal Palace.

Bruce knows Mutch from when the central midfielder was coming through the ranks at Birmingham but insists that his priority is to bring in a goalkeeper because of Jed Steer’s serious injury.

Aston Villa fans – what do you think? Are you disappointed not to get Mutch? Who do you want to see come in this January? Let us know in the comments below…
