Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has spoken of his desire to see the club put their faith in a manager for a period of 'three to four years', in a report by the Birmingham Mail.

The Villa manager was speaking after seeing his side run away 3-0 winners from their evening kick off with Barnsley last night, but was keen to stress that he knows the pressure he is under and is keen to be given the chance to see the job through.

"I’m under no illusion. Seven points from seven games isn’t good enough, but sometimes you’ve got to see the bigger picture.

“Whether it’s me or another manager, somebody has got to manage the club for the next three or four years. I hope it’s myself - that’s what it needs". said Bruce.

Villa have gotten off to a poor start once again in the Championship but the result at Barnsley can give the club a real boost as the season enters its tough winter months.

The club have been in a period of transition since being relegated from the Premier League and the club have already parted company with Roberto Di Matteo at the beginning of last season. Bruce will be hoping he can avoid the chop this term and lead Villa to relative success.

The Verdict

The comments from Bruce make good sense, and the club would be wise to invest in a bit of stability.

Bruce is one of the most proven managers in the Championship, and he has every right to believe he can lead the Villans to success this year.
