Ipswich striker Martyn Waghorn has been sensational since his move to Portman Road from Rangers this summer, and stats released by The Ninety Two on Twitter reveal that the former Sunderland striker has the best minutes to goal ratio in the second tier.

A goal every 81 minutes for the forward is a remarkable return, and puts him a full 24 minutes ahead of second placed Nelson Oliveira, who can boast a goal every 105 minutes on the field.

Waghorn’s six goals in six starts has helped Ipswich to a remarkable start to the new campaign, and the Tractor Boys sit in eighth place at this early stage of the season.

Win the game in hand they hold over their closest rivals, and Mick McCarthy’s men can rise as high as third.

The Suffolk club have endured a long absence from the Premier League, but with the likes of Waghorn leading the way, there is a real belief that top flight football could be in reach this year.

The Verdict

Waghorn has proven to be a phenomenal piece of business by McCarthy this summer, and the cut-price deal to bring him south of the border is arguably the best piece of business in the Championship so far.

Some questioned his ability to perform at this level when he made the move, but Waghorn has silenced all of his critics, and could be the man to lead the Tractor Boys to an unexpected promotion push.

The partnership he has formed with fellow forward and former Rangers man Joe Garner is proving deadly, and defences are struggling to cope with the movement and explosive finishing of the pair.
