Aston Villa reject Ross McCormack has been named as the top Championship scorer in the last ten years, in stats released by The Ninety Two on Twitter.

The Scottish international has amassed an impressive 120 goals since the start of the 2007/08 season, 24 goals ahead of second placed Jordan Rhodes.

The results will come as a shock to Aston Villa fans, with the former Leeds United and Fulham man scoring just three times in twenty second tier appearances for Steve Bruce’s side.

McCormack’s attitude has been severely questioned since his arrival in the West Midlands, and his standing at the club became so low that manager Bruce decided to send the once prolific striker on loan to Australian side Melbourne City.

The 31-year-old has three goals in five appearances for the Victoria based side, proving he still has the prowess in front of goal to bag on a regular basis, but his time at Villa certainly appears to be over.

The Verdict

The stats will come as a disappointment to Villa fans, with much expected of McCormack following his £12 million arrival from Fulham last year.

The move just hasn’t worked out for all involved, and marks yet another big money deal for a striker in which Villa have failed to get the best out of their new man.

McCormack is likely to move on in the near future, whether that is in the Championship or abroad, and Bruce will simply have to put this failed transfer down to experience.

Combine the £12 million fee with the near £10 million paid for flop Scott Hogan, and questions will surely be asked of the former Man United’s man’s recruitment policy.
