Sheffield United have confirmed the signing of John Egan, with the centre-back joining the Blades for a club-record fee from Brentford.

The 25-year-old has impressed in the Championship over the past two years and is a coup for the Yorkshire side, who have money to spend after David Brooks left for Bournemouth in a £11.5m deal.

After a very good first season back in the Championship, boss Chris Wilder had stressed it was quality over quantity this window.

And, they have delivered by landing the Ireland international, who has established himself as a very good player at this level.

Whilst the manager will want more additions before the campaign starts, Egan's arrival, following Dean Henderson signing up at Bramall Lane, shows they are heading in the right direction.

Understandably, fans were delighted with the Egan's four-year deal, particularly because of the ambition the club have shown.
