A stat has emerged that has revealed just how impressive the start to the season made by Leeds United's defensive unit has been, putting it among the best in the history of the English second tier.

The Whites have been phenomenal defensively through the start of the 2019/20 campaign, conceding the fewest goals (10) and keeping the most clean sheets (12) in the Championship.

That strength at the back has helped them climb to second in the table–two points back from league leaders West Bromwich Albion and with an eight-point gap over the sides in third and fourth.

It has now been revealed that Leeds' resolute start to the season has put them among the best in history in the English second tier.

LUFCDATA has tweeted a stat from Stats Zone that reveals that only one side have conceded fewer goals through the first 20 games of the season in the history of the English second division.

The record is understood to be held by Notts County, who conceded eight goals in the first 20 games of the 1922-23 campaign.

Leeds may struggle to keep a 13th clean sheet at Elland Road this evening as they welcome a Hull City side that are amongst the highest scorers in the division and are spearheaded by 14-goal four-assist forward Jarrod Bowen.

The Verdict

This latest stat is further proof of just how impressive the Whites backline have been this season.

I will put my hand up and say that when Pontus Jansson was sold and Ben White identified as his replacement I was concerned that Leeds were taking a huge risk.

That decision has proved a masterstroke so far and White has been key to their defensive success–starting every game so far.

You'd imagine if they can keep up that sort of form they will be well set to finally end their 15-year absence from the Premier League in May.
