‘Start the lad against Watford’, ‘A star’ – Many Bristol City fans rave about one man in FA Cup defeat

Bristol City were knocked out of the FA Cup by Sheffield United at Bramall Lane last night but many Robins fans have been raving about debutant Ryley Towler.

With City’s first five options at left-back out injured, the 18-year-old centre-back was handed his debut at left wing-back against the Blades and showed promising signs.

The Bristol-born teenager has been in the Bs3 club’s academy since he joined the U9s and having worked his way through the age-group sides, has been training with the first-team for much of the season.

Dean Holden’s men produced a spirited and hard-working display but were undone in the second half when a VAR decision saw their hosts awarded a penalty and Alfie Mawson sent off.

Billy Sharp converted the spot-kick and despite some late pressure, the Robins were unable to find an equaliser meaning it is Chris Wilder’s side that progress to the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Did these 15 former Bristol City players leave for a higher or lower fee than they arrived for?

Ultimately, it was another frustrating evening in what has been a difficult period for the Robins and their fans but Towler’s performance on debut was certainly a positive.

The teenager seems to have impressed City supporters, with many taking to Twitter to voice their thoughts.
