Bristol City were knocked out of the FA Cup by Sheffield United at Bramall Lane last night but many Robins fans have been raving about debutant Ryley Towler.
With City’s first five options at left-back out injured, the 18-year-old centre-back was handed his debut at left wing-back against the Blades and showed promising signs.
The Bristol-born teenager has been in the Bs3 club’s academy since he joined the U9s and having worked his way through the age-group sides, has been training with the first-team for much of the season.
Dean Holden’s men produced a spirited and hard-working display but were undone in the second half when a VAR decision saw their hosts awarded a penalty and Alfie Mawson sent off.
Billy Sharp converted the spot-kick and despite some late pressure, the Robins were unable to find an equaliser meaning it is Chris Wilder’s side that progress to the FA Cup quarter-finals.
Did these 15 former Bristol City players leave for a higher or lower fee than they arrived for?
Ultimately, it was another frustrating evening in what has been a difficult period for the Robins and their fans but Towler’s performance on debut was certainly a positive.
The teenager seems to have impressed City supporters, with many taking to Twitter to voice their thoughts.

Thought after a disappointing game, where we struggled, but SU were a better team, Towler was definitely a star tonight! Never put much wrong, looked confident on the ball, great debut despite the result!

Yeah defensively mainly decent. Moore very good. Towler great for 18 and his debut. Vyner and Williams solid in midfield. Up top though is our big problem. Just not good enough. Fam and Wells. Bloody hell they are so poor together. surely Holden will see it eventually!
