Niko Hamalainen has committed his long-term future to Queens Park Rangers by signing a new four-year contract until the summer of 2024, the club have confirmed.

The 23-year-old had entered the final 12 months of his deal at in West London, but has decided to extend his stay despite having not featured for Rangers' first-team since an EFL Cup tie in September 2018.

Hamalainen made 32 appearances whilst on loan at Scottish Premiership outfit Kilmarnock last season, which came after the left-back had played three matches in a brief loan stint in the MLS for Los Angeles FC.

He's also been capped twice for Finland, including last month's Nations League victory against Republic of Ireland in Dublin.

But now Hamalainen will be looking to stamp his authority on QPR's senior side after playing just six times in as many years since making the switch over the pond from the FC Dallas' Academy.

R's supporters haven't seen the defender play for the club for more than two years, but after some poor Championship results in recent weeks, they are desperate to see Hamalainen given an opportunity to play more regularly.

Some QPR fans were even demanding boss Mark Warburton to throw him in against Birmingham City on Saturday.
