‘Standout’, ‘Excellent toady’ – Many Birmingham City fans react to influential display from 24-y/o vs Stoke City

A number of Birmingham City supporters have hailed the performance of goalkeeper Matija Sarkic following the Blues’ goalless draw at home to Stoke City on Saturday.

Lee Bowyer’s side were aiming to make it back-to-back wins to start the new Championship season, but they were up against an equally well-drilled Stoke side who had also secured three points in their opening match of the campaign against Reading.

As a result, neither side were able to edge out the other and the two sides had to settle for what was a very useful point in the end at St Andrews.

There were plenty of positives for Birmingham to take from the game from a defensive point of view as they once again demonstrated that they are going to be a tough team to play against this term.

Sarkic was making his first league start for Birmingham at St Andrews and after a couple of concerning moments in pre-season he was able to show a lot of improvement against Stoke.

The Wolves loanee was able to command his penalty area very well throughout the contest and that helped to ease the pressure on the Blues at times.
