St Mirren have endured another steady season under the tutelage of Jim Goodwin.

The club have won only one of their last eight games, but have only suffered a defeat once during that run of fixtures as well.

Goodwin's side continue to sit just below mid-table in seventh place in the SPFL standings, ahead of this week's trip to Hamilton in the Scottish Cup.

The Saints didn't sign a single player for a transfer fee in the summer, with eight players arriving on free transfers and six arriving on loan.

Looking back to when the club have splashed the cash on a few players in the past, who were the most expensive signings?

Here, we take a look at the top five most expensive signings, with help from Transfermarkt, and see what they are up to nowadays...

Despite big expectations when he arrived from Darlington for a fee of £75,000, Heaton flattered to deceive at St Mirren Park.

The 21-year-old played only twice for the club before being sent out on loan to Kidderminster Harriers.

After returning to Darlington, he had spells with Bradford Park Avenue and Longridge Town. He is now playing in Australia for Mornington SC.

Eddie Malone is said to have joined St Mirren for a fee of around £338k when he arrived from Clyde in 2007.

He was to make only a handful of appearances for the club, however, and later joined Dundee.

O'Donnell was another player to arrive from Clyde in 2007.

He ended up playing for St Mirren for three years and featured over 50 times in the league, before joining Dundee in 2010.

Missing out on top spot is Thomas Stickroth.

The German defender joined the club from Bayer Uerdingen in 1990, for a fee of what is believed to be around £540,000.

Ricky Gillies also said to cost around £540,000, according to Transfermarkt.

He had two spells with the club, and cost that much when he joined from Aberdeen in 2000.
