Blackburn Rovers are set to land talented Lithuanian midfielder Vilius Piliukaitis ahead of a host of top Premier League sides.

The 17-year old had been training with a number of clubs in the UK, including Tottenham, Man United and Liverpool, as he looked for his next move.

However, he has turned down Mauricio Pochettino’s men, and spurned interest from Manchester United and Liverpool, to make the move to Rovers, according to TEAMtalk.

Tony Mowbray and his staff were clearly very impressed by Piliukaitis when they ran the rule over him at their training base and quickly moved to sort a deal out.

That saw the Lancashire side move ahead of Spurs who had also tried to bring the player in from Lithuania’s National Football Academy.

Whilst he will most definitely be seen as one for the future, it is a real coup for Mowbray and the club to land the promising player ahead of such clubs.

It should also please the fans ahead of what could be a busy few weeks for the team as they look to make more additions following promotion to the Championship.

The Verdict

Obviously fans won’t have seen Piliukaitis play but the fact Blackburn have beaten so many top sides to land the midfielder is hugely promising.

The player clearly likes what he’s heard from Mowbray and can see a pathway to the first-team.

Now, it’s down to him to continue to develop and improve his game as he adapts to life in England and looks to fulfil the potential he has.
