Reports have recently surfaced that Aston Villa remain interested in landing Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna in January.

The 22-year old was linked with a switch to Villa Park in the summer, where the Villans, under former boss Steve Bruce, reportedly had a £6.5million bid turned down for the highly-rated centre-half.

Dean Smith's men have been shaky in defence this season, conceding 43 goals in the league which has really de-railed their assault on the play-off positions, but McKenna could be the perfect fix.

With Scottish champions Celtic also monitoring the progress of McKenna, they are reportedly unwilling to pay the £10million price tag Aberdeen have placed on the defender - here, we discuss whether Villa should spend that amount of money on McKenna...

George Harbey

"It's a lot of money for a defender, but Villa should splash the cash in this particular case.

"McKenna has emerged as one of the best defenders in Scotland and has already captained the national team at the relatively young age of 22.

"Villa need to address their defensive options, and McKenna would be an excellent signing for Dean Smith's men."

Gary Hutchinson

"£10m on McKenna? Fallacy. Complete and utter fallacy.

"They could buy two players to strengthen their offering for that money.

"Steer clear."

Jacob Potter

"He's definitely worth that price.

"McKenna might not be proven in the Championship, but there's got to be a reason why he is so highly sought after.

"It would be a gamble, but with age on his side, it could certainly pay off for Villa."
