Kalvin Phillips will return to the starting line-up for Leeds United this evening against Hull City, with Marcelo Bielsa confirming he will make at least one change to the side that overcame Huddersfield Town last weekend.

Leeds were 2-0 winners at Huddersfield on Saturday afternoon despite Phillips’ absence, as the midfielder served a one-match suspension after receiving five yellow cards before November’s threshold was lifted.

However, it wasn’t a convincing afternoon for Leeds, with Ben White forced to drift between centre-back and holding midfield to accommodate the absence of Phillips.

Bielsa confirmed that Phillips would be returning to the starting line-up this evening against Hull City, but that he hasn’t decided who he will come into the side for.

"He (Phillips) comes back to play," Bielsa said, as quoted by Leeds Live. "Someone is going to leave the team. I haven't decided yet."

Gaetano Berardi could miss out, with Luke Ayling playing at centre-back and Stuart Dallas at right-back.

Alternatively, Dallas or Ezgjan Alioski could miss out, with Berardi, White and Ayling forming a three-man defence behind Phillips.

Phillips, 24, had played in the 19 games prior to Saturday, scoring one goal and registering two assists from holding midfield.

He returns to the side with Leeds on a nine-game unbeaten run, having won the last six.

The Verdict

Leeds were lucky against Huddersfield, with their first-half performance leaving a lot to be desired.

They missed Phillips’ presence in the midfield, and minus two classy goals in the second period, were at Huddersfield’s standard for much of the game.

Phillips’ return gives Bielsa the heartbeat of his side back, with Leeds looking to extend a long winning run.
