Southend United fans will enjoy latest transfer line

Reliable Echo News journalist Chris Phillips reports that Sky Bet League One outfit Southend United have turned away a greater bid from an unknown club for the services of midfielder Ryan Leonard.

The 25-year-old picked up the Shrimpers’ Player of the Season for last term and the performances that earned him high reviews has led to the ongoing, unclear situation regarding his future at Roots Hall.

Leonard has publicly stated he doesn’t want to remain at the third-tier club beyond this summer transfer window and reports suggest his current employer have previously turned down an approach from the Championship’s new boys.

It is still up in the mist as to what the most recent figure was but the Blades’ initial bid was thought to be £300,000, which was swiftly turned down by the Essex-based team.

Millwall were also among the running for Ryan Leonard’s services alongside fellow promoted side Sheffield United.

The box-to-box midfield maestro made 43 appearances for manager Phil Brown last season having narrowly missed out on the top-six by one point.

Who do you think has made the fresh approach for Leonard? How much do you value the player? Let us get your thoughts in the comments below!
