Southend United are expected to complete the double signing of midfielder Sam Manton and defender Harry Lennon today, report the Echo.
Manton was on loan at the club from Scunthorpe United last season and impressed the Roots Hall faithful. The 26-year-old underwent a medical at the club earlier this week and is expected to be revealed as a permanent signing before the weekend.
Centre-back Lennon is also expected to complete a move to the Essex club.
The 23-year-old will move from another League One rival in the form of Charlton Athletic. Southend manager Chris Powell knows Lennon from his time managing the Addicks and has been very keen to bring the defender to his new club.
Lennon and Manton will become the club’s third and fourth signings of the summer as Chris Powell continues to build for an exciting season.
These seem like two very important signings for the Shrimpers, especially the Manton deal.
Signing a midfielder who impressed so much last season will bring a real buzz and sense of optimism to the club and is exactly what they need.
In a season where the League One table is possibly the weakest, it has been for a long time, acquiring your top targets is absolutely crucial.
Chris Powell looks set to continue his impressive start at his boyhood club and resume their sparkling form next season.
