Southend sit 22nd in League One after 11 matches. This weekend they play 21st place Wimbledon which looks like a relegation six-pointer between two teams with just a win each so far. Both teams have gained just four points from their last six matches.

In terms of injuries, Southend have been unlucky this season but Waddock has updated fans today ahead of the weekend's match. Striker Brandon Goodship is back in training however he's 'not 100% but he's getting there'. Midfielder Sam Mantom is likely out for Saturday with a hamstring injury, how long he'll be out for is uncertain right now. Sam Barratt 'had a setback' but is back in light training but won't be back for a while yet.

Tom Hopper who had decent form for Southend last season, got 45 minutes in his first game back which was good progress but Waddock said they need to 'make sure they do everything right with him' before bringing him back into the frame for a starting position.

Along with these, Waddock said there are some more injuries but added 'I won't say who they are too but we will give them as much time as we can'.

With Southend's form being so poor, Waddock also had to answer whether he'd be in charge for the match on Saturday to which he responded 'as far as I'm aware'.

The Verdict

Southend have had a poor start to the season. They've been unfortunate with injuries and Waddock has had to adapt to the problems being thrown at him. However, he hasn't been able to turn performances into points and have conceded the most goals in the league. With such an important game this weekend which offers a big opportunity to pick up some need points, Waddock's tenure at Southend could be under serious threat.
