Out-of-contract Southend United goalkeeper Daniel Bentley is wanted by Scottish side Rangers, according to the Sun.
The 22-year-old will be a free agent at the end of June as he has refused to sign a new contract with the Sky Bet League One club. Rangers, who were recently promoted back to the Scottish Premiership under the stewardship of former Brentford boss Mark Warburton, are said to very interested in Bentley.
Bentley was dropped from the Southend starting eleven towards the end of season due to the player’s contract saga, but the Shrimpers have failed in their attempt to tie the Basildon-born goalkeeper down to a new deal, making it increasingly likely that he will leaving the club in the coming weeks.
Hull City, who won the Championship play-offs yesterday courtesy of a 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday, reportedly had a £1 million bid rejected in the January transfer window.
Bentley started his career off at Arsenal but was released in 2008, and the Roots Hall side didn’t take long to snap the 6ft 4” goalie. Since then, Bentley has made just short of 200 appearances for Southend United, although the likelihood of him appearing for the Shrimpers again is very slim.
