Timothee Dieng has spoken honestly after Southend were thrashed at home to relegation rivals AFC Wimbledon.

Southend have had an awful start to the season and currently sit in 22nd position in the table, with just Bolton Wanderers, who had a point deduction, behind the Shrimpers.

The season has all the makings for a disaster, and unbelievably after 12 games of the new campaign, Southend have lost ten matches.

With reports stating that Henrik Larsson and Dirk Kuyt set to be taking over at the club, it's sure to be an interesting time in the coming weeks, but they must improve.

Dieng has stated that it's on the players and they know that it's not good enough.

Speaking to the official Southend United website, Dieng said: “We are not happy and we know it is not good enough from every player on the pitch. We have to do better.

“We conceded early goals in both halves and it’s not the first time it has happened to us this season or last season.

“We have to improve in that period.

“I think we have the quality in the squad but we’ve said that for a long time now. We need to show that we can get results.

“It’s on us players and we have to do better.”

The Verdict

Southend are in serious trouble, and they have to try and improve somehow. With the new management team set to come in, maybe they can be inspired to kick on and get some much needed results.

They've been so close some weeks, and even squandered a lead to face defeat against Wycombe after leading the game heading into stoppage time.

Larsson has to be able to insert some defensive prowess in their game otherwise they are going to get relegated. Southend have conceded the most goals in League One, and that has to change.
