Derby County will have a tough task keeping hold of their star man Matej Vydra this summer, after his impressive season at Pride Park.

The Rams missed out on promotion to the Premier League following their 2-1 aggregate defeat to Fulham in the play-off semi-final, and face losing their 26-year-old striker as a result, due to a cut in budget, according to a report in the Telegraph.

The Czech finished the season as the Championship’s top goal scorer, netting 22 times in all competitions, securing his spot in the league’s team of the season.

Vydra joined the Rams for a reported £8 million from Premier League side Watford back in August 2016, and we think Southampton should take a serious look at him.

As you can see, the stats are from Vydra’s entire season, in which he played 42 times for Gary Rowett’s side.

Bagging himself 22 goals, the Czech finished the season one goal ahead of Aston Villa’s Lewis Grabban, to claim the Championship's golden boot award, as well as chipping in with four assists for his team-mates.

With an average shot tally per game of just 1.8, it is impressive that Vydra found the net on so many occasions.

Matej Vydra ended the season with an average fouls won per game of 1.5 and one key pass per match, making him a real danger man for Derby County.

The striker would be a great addition to the Saints with them struggling a lot for goals this season as long as he quickly adapted to the Premier League.

Let's see if Mark Hughes is tempted.
