Southampton have seen a bid of £16m accepted for Birmingham City striker, Che Adams according to the Daily Mail.

The Saints had previously seen two bids rejected by the Championship side, but Birmingham's valuation of their talisman seems to have been matched.

Adams netted 22 goals for the Blues last season, as they finished 17th in the league table due to a breach of EFL profitability and sustainability rules.

Garry Monk has recently left his post in charge of Birmingham, in a move that didn't sit well with the club's supporters heading into next season.

Jota has also left the club in favour of a move to local rivals, Aston Villa, so it's far from ideal preparation for next year's league campaign, which gets underway in August.

Adams has been key to the success of Birmingham in recent years, and he's certain to leave a notable void in attack, which will be tough to fill for the Blues.

The report also claims that Adams has said his goodbyes to his Birmingham team-mates, after being informed that a bid had been accepted on Friday evening.

It remains to be seen as to whether Birmingham will reinvest the funds they get from this seemingly imminent deal, although the supporters will be far from pleased if their star striker isn't replaced.

The Verdict:

It looks as though they've finally got their man.

Southampton's interest in signing Adams has been no secret, and they'll be delighted to take a step closer to confirming the singing of the forward.

He was excellent for Birmingham last season, and he's evidently destined for bigger and better things, so it was only a matter of time before he left the club.

Birmingham need to find a replacement for Adams, as he'll leave a sizeable void in attack for the Blues.
