Brentford winger, Ollie Watkins has emerged as a transfer target for Premier League side, Southampton, according to a latest report from Sky Sports.

It will come as no surprise to see the 23-year-old being linked with a move to the top flight, as he has been in impressive form this season for the Bees.

He has seven goals and three assists to his name this season, and without his contribution, Brentford would be even deeper in a relegation battle.

They are currently sat 17th in the league table, and have struggled to adjust to life without Dean Smith since he departed for a move to Aston Villa earlier this season.

Watkins signed from Exeter in 2017, and has gone to to score 17 goals in 68 appearances in the Championship, and he is one of Brentford's star players.

The Bees are understood to be reluctant to sell the midfielder, and has valued him at over £20m, which is sure to cool interest in his services.

Sky Sports have also reported that the Saints are interested in signing Watkins' Brentford team-mate, Chris Mepham, as they look to bolster their defensive options for the remainder of this year's campaign.

The Verdict:

He's certainly deserving of a Premier League move.

Watkins has been a rare bright spark in a disappointing league campaign for Brentford this season, and he could be tempted by a move to the Saints.

If Brentford choose to sell him, then I fear for their future this season, with relegation a serious possibility without Watkins providing their creative spark.
