Southampton's Matt Targett, on loan at Craven Cottage, has revealed that he hasn't ruled out making his stay in West London a permanent one.

The 22-year old has been with Fulham since the January transfer window, playing 14 times as they stride towards a play off place in the Championship.

When asked about remaining at Fulham, he certainly left the door open for any possible move in the future.

"We'll have to see," he told Sky Sports. "Obviously Southampton aren't in the best position in the Premier League at the moment and I'm very happy here. I've done well here so far and I just want that to carry on, to push on and get Fulham back in the Premier League."

He did reveal he hadn't spoken to anyone at Southampton and any move would be subject to factors beyond his control.

"It would certainly be an option, but it would be down to both clubs agreeing a fee. I haven't spoken to anyone at the club, so I'm fully focused on doing a job here at Fulham."

Targett, who has England honours up to U21 level, can operate at left back or on the left wing and has formed an interesting partnership with man of the moment Ryan Sessegnon.

The Verdict

If Sessegnon moves on as expected, then a move for Targett seems sensible to me. He's young and hungry and seemingly not in the manager's plans on the south coast, so why not swap for the bright lights of West London?

It must be hard as a loan player when quizzed on your future, you don't want to burn bridges with your parent club, nor appear uninterested in a move to your loan club. I think Targett handled the discussion very well.
