Southampton interested in on-loan Swansea man

Swansea City’s on-loan centre back Marc Guehi is a potential transfer target for Southampton, a report from The Athletic has revealed.

Guehi is currently in his second straight loan spell at The Liberty Stadium from Chelsea, and has so far made a total of 50 appearances in all competitions for Swansea.

Now it seems as though the 20-year-old’s performances during his time with the club, are starting to attract attention from the Premier League.

According to this latest update, Southampton are considering Guehi as a potential target to add to their central defensive ranks, should they lose Janick Vestergaard in the summer transfer window.

Prior to his loan move to Swansea, Guehi had made two appearances at senior level for Chelsea, both of which came in last season’s League Cup.

Are these 19 facts about the Liberty Stadium true or false?

As things stand, there is currently just over a year remaining on Guehi’s contract with his parent club, securing his future at Stamford Bridge until the end of next season.

The Verdict

I could see this being a smart piece of business from Southampton.

Guehi has certainly been very impressive in the Championship since his arrival at Swansea, and you do feel as though he could be ready to make the step up to the Premier League sooner rather than later.

He could therefore be a useful asset for Southampton should they need him, although it will be interesting to see whether Chelsea are willing to let him go permanently, on loan, or not at all given the potential he possess.

This does however, look like a blow to Swansea’s hopes of bringing Guehi back to the Liberty Stadium next season, given they may need to win promotion – something they are making hard work of at the minute – to compete with that interest from elsewhere.
