Southampton are believed to have held talks with AFC Bournemouth over a last-minute move for Josh King according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.
It is claimed that the two clubs are holding talks over a potential permanent deal, which would also see Southampton forward Shane Long sign for the Cherries on loan for the remainder of this year’s campaign.
Fulham have also entered the race to sign Josh King according to a recent report from Football Insider, although it seems as though the Saints are leading the race to land his signature.
King made 27 appearances for AFC Bournemouth last season, and scored six goals in all competitions, although his efforts weren’t quite enough, as the Cherries were relegated from the Premier League.
He has recently returned to the starting XI in recent months since struggling for consistent minutes with Bournemouth amid rumoured interest from other clubs.
King has scored three goals in 14 appearances in all competitions for Bournemouth this season. However, he is yet to get on the scoresheet in their league campaign this term, which is something he’ll be eager to change in the near future.
The Cherries are currently sat sixth in the Championship table after their opening 26 matches in this year’s campaign, as they look to mount a serious push for promotion back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.
It remains to be seen as to whether King will have a role to play in that promotion challenge, with Southampton reportedly keen on a deal to sign the forward on Deadline Day.
Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side are currently sat 11th in the Premier League, and are clearly keen to add to their squad before the transfer window reaches a conclusion.
Bournemouth are set to return to action on Tuesday evening, when they host Sheffield Wednesday, in what could prove to be a tricky test for Jason Tindall’s side.

He could be a very good signing for Southampton on Deadline Day. King has been the subject of a considerable amount of speculation linking him with a move away from AFC Bournemouth in recent months, but it’s good to see him featuring regularly nowadays for the Cherries.
King has shown glimpses of his quality this season, but has already shown that he can perform to a high standard in the Premier League, having scored six goals and been on hand to provide four assists for his Bournemouth team-mates last term in the top-flight.
If he can find some form in front of goal in the near future, then he could be a strong option to have for Southampton for future seasons.
