Nottingham Forest will field more interest in Matty Cash this summer, with Southampton and West Ham United set to make bids to lure the versatile right-back out of the Championship.

Cash was immense for Forest last season in the Championship, thriving in the right-back role Sabri Lamouchi trusted him with. In 42 appearances, the 22-year-old scored three goals and registered five assists, but that contribution wasn’t enough to secure play-off football.

With Forest now picking up the pieces of their shattered season, Premier League clubs are circling Cash, with the Telegraph reporting how a £10m bid for the player from Sheffield United has been rejected.

Do you know the club these 15 Nottingham Forest players started their career with?

It remains to be seen what the Blades’ next move is, but the likelihood is that they won’t be the only Premier League club moving for Cash this summer, with Southampton and West Ham reportedly readying bids for the Forest academy graduate.

Cash, like all his Forest teammates, were left devastated on the final day of the Championship season as a loss to Stoke City - combined with Swansea City’s win over Reading and huge goal difference swing - saw the Reds slip out of the play-off places.

They had been inside the top-six for large parts of the second-half of the season.

The Verdict

The way Forest collapsed in the race for the play-offs was gutting and, when you consider it might lead to the exit of players like Cash, it makes it even more frustrating.

You feel £10m won’t be nearly enough to lure him out of the City Ground but, in truth, Forest are well placed here given there are already three Premier League sides linked.

Whether it is Sheffield United, Southampton or West Ham, they are in a bidding war, which increases Forest’s chance of getting a fair price for an undoubted talent.
