Wigan Athletic's impressive recruitment drive is set to continue as they are closing in on signing Stephen Humphrys from Rochdale, Football League World can reveal.

The Latics are really showing they mean business for next season in Sky Bet League One, with a number of good signings being sealed since the opening of the transfer window this summer.

Charlie Wyke has recently been announced after his exit from Sunderland and the Latics are ready to add to their attacking ranks further with the signing of Dale star Stephen Humphrys, Football League World can reveal.

The forward scored 11 goals and set up a further three last year in the third tier for Rochdale and, though that wasn't enough to keep them from dropping into Sky Bet League Two at the end of the campaign, he still impressed with a number of his performances.

Indeed, he's done enough to convince Wigan to give him another shot at football in the third tier for 2021/22 and he'll be eager to repay that faith as he looks to potentially dovetail with former Black Cats man Wyke.

Humphrys only joined Rochdale in the summer transfer window last year and his stint there is coming to a close after one campaign, as he looks to link up with Leam Richardson's Latics.
