West Bromwich Albion and Watford are among the sides battling to try and sign midfielder Sean Longstaff if he ends up leaving current club Newcastle United, Football League World has been told.

The Baggies and the Hornets will meet in the Sky Bet Championship next season and both will be looking to try and challenge for promotion.

Adding to their squad in the summer window is going to be important in trying to achieve that, then, and that is where Longstaff may well come in.

The midfielder's contract at Newcastle is coming to an end this summer and though he has been offered a new deal he has not yet agreed anything.

Whilst that is the case, then, the door is open for him to leave and try something new, and both Watford and West Brom are looking into bringing him in ahead of the 2022/23 season, this site has been told.

It remains to be seen what he does, though, as he is surely aware that if he does leave Newcastle it could be he does so at a point where the club starts to build something big, given their financial boost in recent months.

Time will tell what he does.
