Southampton are confident that they are going to reach an agreement with Blackburn Rovers to sign Adam Armstrong this summer transfer window, Football League World understands.

The Rovers forward had a good season last year at Ewood Park and that has attracted a number of Premier League sides towards him, with Southampton the keenest of all.

Indeed, with Danny Ings' future currently up in the air, the Saints are evidently looking to add to their attack this summer and Football League World understands that they are confident of getting a deal done for the player, despite recent rejections, with a £10m fee plus further add-ons, they believe, potentially enough to get it over the line.

Rovers have been looking for £20m this summer transfer window before selling up but Saints feel their structured approach will be enough to get the deal done, and bring the forward to the Premier League.

Armstrong scored a hugely impressive 28 goals last term in the Sky Bet Championship, finishing second behind Ivan Toney in the Golden Boot race in the second tier.

Rovers were challenging for the play-offs at one point last season, obviously in part thanks to his goals, but a tailing off in the second-half of the year cost them badly, and there's now a considerable chance Armstrong will be departing Ewood Park.
