Several Championship sides are looking at Wayne Hennessey at the moment with the goalkeeper out of contract at Crystal Palace this summer, a source has revealed to Football League World exclusively.

The Welshman is firmly behind Vicente Guaita at the moment at Crystal Palace and it is hard to see how he really budges the Spaniard from the number one spot at Selhurst Park.

Indeed, his future in south London looks very uncertain with him one of several Eagles players out of contract this summer and a spell in the Championship could well beckon for him next year.

With that said, Football League World has been told exclusively that a trio of second tier clubs are taking a closer look at him at the moment, namely Middlesbrough, Nottingham Forest and Preston North End.

The trio will all be second tier clubs next year with none of them at risk of dropping into League One or with hopes of achieving promotion now and Hennessey could be an early summer signing for one of them.

He is set to be available on a free transfer and at the age of 34 has plenty of experience to offer the right club - it just remains to be seen where he might end up.
