Northampton Town are set to pick up Jonny Maxted following the goalkeeper’s release from Exeter City, a source has exclusively revealed to Football League World.
Jon Brady is planning for Northampton’s return to League Two, with the Cobblers suffering relegation last year and lasting just a single season back in League One.
A source has revealed to Football League World that Northampton are now closing in on signing Maxted on a free transfer, after his contract with Exeter expired at the end of the 2020/21 campaign.
Across two seasons with Exeter, the 27-year-old made 39 appearances across all competitions.

Included in that, Maxted was also in goal during the 2019/20 League Two play-off final, when Northampton beat the Grecians 4-0 to secure their route into League One.
Opportunities became limited last year, though, with Maxted making only 12 appearances for Exeter, the last of which came back in January.
Prior to his stint at St James’ Park, the goalkeeper played for Forest Green Rovers, Guiseley and Accrington Stanley, having started out with Doncaster Rovers.
