Sources: MK Dons offer EFL lifeline to recently departed Reading FC player

MK Dons have taken Tennai Watson on trial following his release from Reading FC, a source has exclusively revealed to Football League World.

Watson emerged through the Reading academy, but was released by the Sky Bet Championship side earlier this summer alongside the likes of Sone Aluko, Sam Baldock and Sam Walker.

Despite that disappointment for the 24-year-old, he’s been offered the chance to step down a level into League One and potentially link up with Russell Martin at MK Dons.

A source has exclusively revealed to Football League World that the full-back is on trial with MK, as he looks to impress and earn himself a contract somewhere ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Despite only making nine senior appearances for Reading, Watson is no stranger to life in League One, having previously played at that level for AFC Wimbledon and Coventry City on loan.

In 2018/19, Watson made 24 appearances for Wimbledon in League One, before a three-game loan spell with Coventry the following season.

MK finished 13th in League One last season, with Martin’s side impressing in a competitive division.
