Middlesbrough are set to finally make a move to sign Dan Barlaser from Rotherham United, with it Football League World’s understanding that the Millers are resigned to losing him this January.

Barlaser has been linked with a move to Middlesbrough for well over a month now, as Michael Carrick looks ahead to what’s his first transfer window in-charge at the Riverside Stadium.

That’s also the case for Matt Taylor with Rotherham, as the two clubs go in very different directions under their respective new managers.

Rotherham have been on a slippery towards the relegation zone for some time now, whilst Boro are up into the play-off mix after a fine start to Carrick’s managerial career.

The Teessiders now look set to get active in the January transfer window and bolster Carrick’s midfield options.

Sources have confirmed to Football League World that Middlesbrough are ready to push for Barlaser now, with there almost a resignation at Rotherham that they are going to lose him in the opening month of 2023 as his contract ticks down.

The 25-year-old midfielder has made a name for himself at Rotherham, having first arrived at the club from Newcastle United on loan in 2019.

Barlaser has played 149 times for the Millers, scoring 17 goals and registering a further 24 assists. That includes 26 Championship appearances in 2022/23, along with eight goal contributions.
