Middlesbrough are among the sides taking a closer look at goalkeeper Zander Clark, with him currently on the books at St Johnstone, Football League World can reveal.

Boro had a decent season in the Sky Bet Championship in the end, but fans would have been hoping to get into the play-off places come the final stages.

They fell just short, though, and now the plan has to be that they build up their squad in the summer to put together a renewed attempt at winning promotion in 22/23.

A new goalkeeper appears high on their shopping list, then, and Clark is one of the names they are taking a closer look at, this site has been told.

The Scottish international sees his contract with St Johnstone expire this summer and so he could be available on the cheap, though Boro are not the only side keen on trying to bring him south of the border.

A number of clubs are interested in the player with the 29-year-old having a strong season for St Johnstone, despite their collective woes as a team towards the wrong end of the Scottish Premiership table.

He could fancy a new challenge in the summer, then, and Boro might be the team that provides it to him.
