Colchester United have agreed a deal to sign former Ipswich Town player, Cole Skuse, on a free transfer this summer, a source has exclusively revealed to Football League World.

Skuse has been with Ipswich since the summer of 2013, when the Tractor Boys picked him up from Bristol City. During an eight-year stay at Portman Road, the midfielder made 278 appearances, becoming a real fan favourite at the club.

However, the 35-year-old is out of contract this summer and is set to leave Ipswich as a free agent.

A source has exclusively revealed to Football League World that a deal is already in place that will see Skuse head into League Two and link up with Colchester.

On the back of avoiding the threat of relegation in League Two last season, Colchester have appointed Hayden Mullins as the club's head coach, with plans already in place for a more successful 2021/22.

Skuse looks set to be added to the playing squad, whilst Football League World have also been told that Freddie Sears could be another departing Ipswich player that makes the move to the Colchester for the new season.

Paul Cook is overseeing an overhaul at Portman Road, with Skuse and Sears joined by Luke Chambers, Alan Judge, Stephen Ward, Emyr Huws, Tristan Nydam and James Wilson in heading for the exit door.
